I’m blessed to have an old greengage tree in the garden. The wasps love it as much as me, but if you can keep them off the fruit you will have, in mid-summer, a beautifully tart fruit, great for crumbles and chutneys, or, in August and September, a heady and aromatic sweet fruit which is excellent on its own, straight from the tree.
